Same Sunset Series to Debut at Mother Road Market LTO Shop, June 3-30

Pop-up will feature photography and merchandise of Tulsa sunsets by creator and The Outsiders House executive director Danny Boy O’Connor

Tulsa, OK | June 1, 2022 -- Inspired by the Outsiders author S.E. Hinton, Tulsa’s natural beauty and a sense of community, Danny Boy O’Connor will debut his We Saw The Same Sunset gallery at Mother Road Market’s Limited Time Only Market (LTO | MKT) June 3 - 30, 2022.

The “Same Sunset Series” of photography shows a thousand different sunsets viewed from the same window of the 13th floor of Tulsa’s Iconic Mayo Hotel over the past five years. The space will feature We Saw the Same Sunset original framed photography and merchandise available only during the pop-up, as well as select The Outsiders House merchandise.

“This exhibit is my love letter to Tulsa,” said Danny Boy O’Connor, creative director of the We Saw The Same Sunset shop and executive director of The Outsiders House museum. “When I moved from LA to Tulsa five years ago, I was awestruck by Tulsa’s sunsets.  I love the idea that we all share the same sunset regardless of our differences, bringing us a step closer to each other.”

O’Connor draws inspiration from S.E. Hinton’s excerpt in The Outsiders: “It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one I saw from the back steps was the same one. Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset.”

“We are thrilled Danny chose Mother Road Market to debut this work,” said Brian Paschal, CEO of the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation. “His commitment to a shared sense of purpose, building community and overall appreciation for Tulsa aligns perfectly with our mission to Do Good, Eat Well and Shop Local at Mother Road Market."

O’Connor will host a meet and greet on Friday June 3 from 7 - 8 p.m.  Additionally, The WEL Bar at Mother Road Market will feature a Sunset Punch (both cocktail and mocktail options) for opening weekend. The gallery will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the month of June.

Visit Tulsa Re-Opens Official Visitor Center:
The ‘Warm & Informed Welcome’ is Back and on the Mother Road

Tulsa, OK (May 4, 2022) - Fresh off a recent re-launch of visittulsa.com and releasing an all-new seasonal print and digital official visitor guide program, Visit Tulsa of Tulsa Regional Tourism is heating things up for hospitality as it re-opens its official visitor center inside Gambill’s Coffee, located at the Shops at Mother Road Market.

While visitors flock to Tulsa this May for a myriad of reasons including large events like the PGA Championship, the Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN or the Breeder’s International, the unveiling of new global attention-grabbing attraction like the Bob Dylan Center or just to enjoy classics like Tulsa Mayfest, there is one certainty; visitors will be wondering what to do during their allotted stay.

"There definitely is something to be said about giving a warm welcome. We figured a fresh cup of Gambill’s Coffee on us is a nice start,” said Ashleigh Bachert, Interim SVP of Tulsa Regional Tourism. “The moment someone enters, visitor center staff will be happy to answer questions, offer tips and share great attraction insights. If they need to refuel before their adventuring, there happens to be an incredible food hall within walking distance.”

When travelers enter the newly renovated space, they’ll gain access to print and digital visitor assets including the season’s official visitor guide and attraction info and meet TRT team members alongside cross-trained Gambill’s Coffee staff, each excited to provide local insight. Guests can then recharge with a complimentary cup of coffee and USB charging stations while they orient themselves and add new stops to their itinerary.

“As a Tulsa business owner, I was honored at the opportunity to help usher in a new era of Tulsa hospitality by hosting Visit Tulsa’s Visitor Center,” said Hunter Stone Gambill, Owner of Gambill’s Coffee, Gambill’s Pastaria & Grocery and Oklahoma Distilling Company. “Experience is everything, and this offers a chill atmosphere for people to drop in, relax and get some tips from friendly locals. Some of the best decisions are made over a cup of coffee!”

As the Tulsa region prepares for a near citywide hotel sell-out in May 2022, touchpoints like the Visit Tulsa’s Visitor Center will be essential in bolstering the overall experience for newcomers. Uninformed visitors will be able to ask questions and take away tailored suggestions for their trip–along with their complimentary beverage at this new long-term asset in Tulsa tourism.

“The revitalization of Tulsa’s portion of Route 66 is transforming the way people experience Tulsa,” said Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell. “We are anticipating record tourism highs in Tulsa this summer, and the new visitor center along Route 66 will be an important asset in promoting the great experiences we have to offer.”

“The City of Tulsa is prepared and thrilled to greet the multitude of visitors heading our way this year,” Tulsa Mayor G. T. Bynum said. “Our great city is about to be in the spotlight in front of an enormous global audience. Key activations like the visitor center will ensure these visitors see everything that Tulsa has to offer, aiming above and beyond their original reason for coming. I’m thrilled to see such a focus on hospitality and have no doubt that our attractions, restaurants, hotels and city partners will back it up.”

The Shops at Mother Road recently unveiled “Curations by Gilcrease” pop-up retail and gallery space which opened April 2. The shop features a mix of recognizable items that the museum store is known for, including Native American-made jewelry, weavings and reproductions from the Gilcrease collection as well as a space dedicated to “Community Engagement Gallery” with featured works from Oklahoma artists on a rotating basis and interactive art activities. This offers a very unique walking distance experience for visitors as food, retail, arts & culture and information combine for a powerful and lasting impression of Tulsa.

“Mother Road Market is thrilled to be the choice for Visit Tulsa’s new visitors center,” said Brian Paschal, Managing Director of Lobeck Taylor Operating Foundation for Mother Road Market. “When Mother Road Market opened three years ago, we wanted to create a space for Tulsans and travelers to enjoy local food and retail. The hope was that Mother Road Market would be the start of revitalizing this stretch of Route 66. As we near the completion of a year-long, $7 million infrastructure and beautification plan in the Tulsa Market District and open Tulsa’s new visitor center, the realization of our dream has come to fruition.”

Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation Launches Women’s History Month Activation

Interactive community art project and scholarship supports female entrepreneurs

Tulsa, Okla. | March 8, 2022 - The Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation (LTFF) launched a scholarship program and community art installation today in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

Through an interactive floral display on the patio of Mother Road Market, individuals can recognize notable women and contribute to a scholarship program supporting the women of Kitchen 66 and Cocina 66, English and Spanish-speaking incubator programs that provide training and resources for Tulsa food entrepreneurs.

During the month of March, individuals can make a suggested donation of $5 for a flower and place it on the wall with a special note to recognize important women in their life. LTFF will match the community donations to support the women entering the 2022 Fall Launch Programs of Kitchen 66 and Cocina 66.

“I discovered the benefits of the Kitchen 66 Launch Program at a time when I was ready for my business to grow. This education program gave me the knowledge and tools to take my business concept to the next level,” said Sami Cooper, owner of Big Dipper at Mother Road Market and Kitchen 66 graduate.

The project was unveiled today at Mother Road Market by Cooper and LTFF board member Kathy Taylor, who also serves as Dean of the Collins College of Business at the University of Tulsa and founding member of VEST, a network for expanding the pipeline of women in positions of influence. All women in attendance were invited to place inaugural flowers on the wall to officially dedicate the installation.

“Women play a crucial role across industries, sectors and career levels. Honoring women in the community helps to empower those currently in the workforce and inspires our next generation of daughters, nieces and sisters just as my mom’s career inspired me,” said Elizabeth Frame Ellison, president and CEO of the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation.  “Since the opening of Mother Road Market in November 2018, women participants in our Kitchen 66 and Cocina 66 programs have generated more than half a million dollars in sales revenue, reinforcing the value of providing resources and training for women to launch successful food businesses.”

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Break The Bias’, is focused on imagining a gender equal world, free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. Individuals are encouraged to strike the IWD 2022 ‘Break The Bias’ pose in front of the floral display and share on social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world.

Committed to decreasing barriers for underestimated groups, including female entrepreneurs, LTFF is dedicating the month of March to Women’s History Month by celebrating the stories of women-owned merchants. More information is available here.  Last year LTFF held a women-owned pop up at LTO | MKT in Shops at Mother Road Market and launched community-wide interactive floral displays at sites throughout Tulsa on IWD to recognize influential female leaders and women-owned businesses throughout the city.

1907 Barbecue to Open at Mother Road Market on March 3

Cheena Pazzo:  918.625.1937 // cheena@one80.us

Sarah Lorenzen: 918.261.9006 // sarah@lobecktaylor.org

Carly Fussell: 918.845.7623 // carly@lobecktaylor.org

Tulsa, Okla. | Feb. 28, 2022 - 1907 Barbecue will become the newest addition to Mother Road Market, Oklahoma’s only non-profit food hall, on Thursday, March 3.

Owners Justin Carroll and John Karr are looking to reach a wider audience and expand operations. The new location at Mother Road Market is the first brick-and-mortar for 1907 Barbecue.

A popular Tulsa food truck since 2017, the restaurant will feature its Central Texas-style barbecue, which draws from elements of the beef-based Texas barbecue and the pork-forward Kansas City-style to create a unique hybrid flavor profile.

“Mother Road Market is a perfect place for us to learn from other food entrepreneurs, streamline our operations and grow our business,” said co-owner Justin Carroll. “In addition to the built-in exposure and larger customer base, we will have the flexibility to test new menu items and barbecue concepts.”

1907 Barbecue will feature an expanded menu, including Central Texas-style brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, spare ribs, housemade sausage, smoked bologna and daily specials including house-made pastrami, chicken fried steak, pork belly and barbacoa. Meats are smoked in offset wood-burning smokers and local oak wood is used to add a mild sweet flavor.

“The brisket cooks for about 14 hours, using only salt and pepper, prime beef and some prayers,” added Carroll. “The rest of the meat is seasoned minimally but cooked gently and allowed plenty of time to rest.”

"The hybrid style of 1907 Barbecue highlights the way cultural styles can blend to create something uniquely Tulsa. Barbecue is an extremely popular food choice when featured at the Kitchen 66 Takeover Cafe inside Mother Road Market, and we are ecstatic to have 1907 here as a mainstay," said Elizabeth Frame Ellison, President and CEO of Mother Road Market and the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation.

1907 Barbecue got its start in 2013, when Carroll and Karr began entering barbecue competitions. The food truck, which will now be used for special events, was established in 2017 to help finance their trips to competitions and eventually became a mainstay at the Cabin Boys Brewery parking lot. The new location at Mother Road Market will be open Tuesday - Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Selected entrepreneurs will also gain access to the Kitchen 66 community of mentors and fellow business owners in the Tulsa food industry.

"It's always an incredible honor to welcome new food businesses into our program and play a small role in their entrepreneurial journey in an industry that is constantly changing," said Rachael Reagan, program director of Kitchen 66.

Tulsa, Okla. - February 16, 2022 -  Hilo De Amor, a frequent pop-up at the Vault at Mother Road Market and popular mainstay at more than 40 boutiques across the United States, will join the Tulsa food hall as the newest permanent retailer on February 18, 2022.

Hilo De Amor will feature their ever-popular recycled totes, as well as other Oaxacan handmade goods such as pottery, decorations, jewelry and more.

Owner Esther Wright, originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, is looking forward to having her first permanent brick-and-mortar store to bring Oaxacan culture and traditions to Tulsa. Hilo de Amor, which means "Thread of Love", started out as a small partnership with a local ministry in Oaxaca. Now the products are carried throughout the U.S., linking the hardworking and talented artisans of Oaxaca to buyers in the United States.

“I proudly work with groups of creative artisans to offer the world’s most fantastic textile art,” said Wright. “When you purchase items from our store, you are actively transforming lives by putting money directly into the hands of an original craftsperson. You are empowering Oaxacan families, and bringing long-term solutions to an impoverished region.”

Hilo De Amor is dedicated to supporting artisans in Oaxaca and the Tulsa community.  The company donates 15 percent of proceeds from recycled totes twice a year to San Miguel Middle School in Kendall Whittier, regularly supports the Hispanic American Foundation and this year, will launch a $1,000 annual scholarship to a local young person in need.

“Hilo De Amor has been a popular and successful pop-up at Mother Road Market since 2019. We are grateful to have merchants like Esther who value community, creativity and authenticity, and we are proud to support artisan Oaxacan makers right here in Tulsa!” says Elizabeth Frame Ellison, President and CEO of Mother Road Market and the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation.

Hilo De Amor will continue its mission of connecting people from other countries and traditions to Tulsa with this retail spot. The new location at Mother Road Market will be open Tuesday - Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For all the latest on new products, specials and more, follow Hilo De Amor on Facebook at @Hilo De Amor-Thread of Love and on Instagram at @oaxacawonders.

ABOUT HILO DE AMOR: The Mexican state of Oaxaca is renowned for its artisans, and each one has a different story to tell. Not only do artisans put their hearts and soul into their work, but each finished product is engraved with a piece of their culture just waiting to be shared with others. These items resonate with the culture and individualism of the artisan and their families who have inherited the skills and been taught the traditions that have been used for many generations before. Hilo De Amor promotes Oaxacan culture and traditions to people all over the world through our original handmade products. We value creativity, quality, sustainability and innovation. www.hilodeamor.com
